I'm rather excited today, as tonight is my first lesson of Taekwondo!
Growing up on a healthy diet of Video Games and Saturday Morning Cartoons, I've always been curious about the world of Martial Arts. I spent days delivering torndo kicks as Ryu on Street Fighter II and I've seen the match where Rob Van Dam knocks out Jerry Lynn by jump-kicking him from the middle rope fifty times.
As a child, I wanted to try it but there really never was an oppertunity. Now, as a child-like adult, I have the chance to give it a try. I've been planning to excercise more for a little while, and this seems and ideal way to get back into shape. Simply lifting weights or running for the sake of it quickly gets boring, but when you have something on which to pin your regime, like TKD or something else you enjoy, it becomes quite easy to stick to. Aaron's already a red-belt and can deliver some impressive kicks, so he's coming with me, and James, a Judo practitioner, will be joining me too.
So, I'll see if I like it tonight, then I can decide if I'll continue with it into the future. Maybe I'll be the next Jean Claude Van Damme. Maybe I'll get knocked out by an 8 year old.
Hiiiii-yahhhhhhhhh!

I'm writing this little blog post as I sip away at some coffee and eat some croissants in my kitchen. It's really quiet, and really calm. This leads me to the conclusion that I'd much rather live alone in some sort of hyper hygenic, always-clean bubble. However, truth be told, I'd probably miss the people I live with. Like Heather, who has grown on me tremendously rather like the plant bearing her name.
Then there's Aaron. I really do love Aaron to bits, he's ace. A lot of people don't get to see the real him, but he's immense. If I'm honest, I can enjoy the snide, sarchastic Aaron just as much. But that's just me.
But I really worry about him. I know he hates it here, but part of me selfishly wants him to stay.
Fair enough, the first years are fairly boring, segmented, and rubbish when compared to the shining social beacon that is YEAR TWO JOURNALISM, but I'd hope that in a few months they wil have turned it around and they will have evolved into a close knit support network, like I believe we have become.
See, Aaron deep down is a people person. He needs friends around him, I guess here he feels an outsider maybe, or at least that he's lacking the busy social circle that he's relied on for ages in Preston - which he assures me is actually a nice place, and not a foul well of negative feeling on the otherwise okay planet of earth.
Ah, but I've got no conclusion. I've got no solution, really. I can't drag his mates down from Preston, can I? Or... Can I? Hmmm. I'll be right back...
Anyway, I don't want to paint the picture of Aaron as being a desperate loner, I know him to be a popular and well liked person, but its just possibly the case that he's not settling in Carlisle, which could be fatal to his degree.
Ahh, Time will tell with that boy. He's back soon....

Right, the kettles boiling, so I'm going to use these few minutes to publicize my New Year's Resolutions. There's a few.
1. Stop being lazy: I often waste about 6 minutes when I know I have to get up and do something, because I'll just sit there and think over how utterly heartbroken I am that I have to do something. No more of this!
(I'm actually cheating here, bec ause I've already been doing this for a while, so it's an easy win for me. Sorry about that, I've shamed the long legacy of New Year's Resolutions.)
2. Do at least an hour of work a night for university: I always have something to do. If I just sat down and worked at whatever tasks I have for an hour a night, I'd get them done painlessly. However, this brings me on to resolution number 3...
3. Have one day off a week: Because I spend time getting work done on other days, I need to stop wasting the whole 7 days of the week on work. Usually, I have to worry about getting something done I could have had done ages ago, so I don't get time to relax. No more! It will be either the Saturday or Sunday, depending on when I'm working. Hoorah!
4. Get back into shape: Now, readers, you may be shocked to learn this, but there was a time when I was in good shape. I can get my mates Rob and Jonny to vouch for me, even. Well, they won't say that I had 20-inch arm cannons, but they can at least say that I was indeed in good physical shape when we all used to travel to wrestling school together. Ah, good days. Anyway, I don't need to become a muscle-bound steroid-hog like Rob is, but I'd like to improve a bit. Typical 'join the gym' New Year's Resolution, anyone?
5. Engage more with foreign cultures: Carlisle's not known for it's fantastic multi-cultural nature. In fact, in barely has any culture in it at all. However, that's no excuse, and in 2009 I want to see more of the world, particularly during my holiday spent travelling around Europe in the Summer. But, even before then, I'd like to still make an effort to comprehend all four corners of the globe.
6. To keep up to date with current affairs: I suppose 5 and 6 cross over a bit, but as a journalist I should have a fairly good grasp of what's going on in the present day. Sure, I tell Tony I know all about Generic Middle Eastern Conflict #2933, but for all I know "Baroana" could be a city in Wales.
7. (Last one here) Carry on with my blog: Well, this one wont be hard, but I'm going to keep on tapping away at my keyboard and writing these blog posts, including the SUPER SECRET posts that you don't see. Oh, yes, that's right, you're jealous (not). It's just good practice, and it's also good practice to reflect on things for a little bit when you get the chance.
Will I keep them? I don't know, but I'll write a little update on them later in the year. If I fail completely, then I probably wont. Just so you know.
Take care,
Adam xxx
PS Should I sign off these blogs like that or not? I will, it makes it sound like I'm important. I guess.
PPS I'm really exciting about getting the game Left 4 Dead, which is making its way to me through the lackluster British Postal Service right now. Lets hope it's a goodie. Argh, Zombies!
